Description

Gaudin Classic and Gaudin Porsche of Las Vegas are proud to present this exceptionally rare 1968 Porsche 911 L, finished in its original and striking Polo Red (Code 6802) over a Black leatherette interior, showing just 57,066 original miles. Produced for one year only and exclusively for the U.S. market, the 911 L represents a fascinating and important chapter in the early history of the Porsche 911. With only 499 examples produced, it is today one of the rarest variants of the early short-wheelbase 911. The “L,” standing for Luxe, combined many of the desirable features and elevated trim of the European 911 S with a U.S.-compliant version of Porsche's 1,991 cc air-cooled flat-six engine, producing approximately 130 horsepower. Paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, it offered the performance, refinement, and unmistakable driving character that established the early 911 as one of the great European sports cars of its era. At the time, the 911 L sat at the top of Porsche's American range and was the most expensive Porsche offered in the United States, reflecting its unique combination of performance, refinement, and exclusivity. This particular example, chassis no. 11805220, was completed on February 13, 1968, and retains its highly desirable matching-numbers configuration. Its Polo Red exterior is complemented by the distinctive details of the 911 L, including polished aluminum window trim, brushed aluminum dashboard trim, a black steering wheel, and the small side-marker lights characteristic of U.S.-market 1968 examples. Factory equipment includes: 5-speed manual transmission Blaupunkt radio Loudspeaker and antenna Driver and passenger headrests Tinted glass Ski/luggage rack (not pictured) Perhaps most importantly, this 911 L is accompanied by extensive documentation dating back to its original purchase, providing a remarkable record of its history and supporting its 57,066 original miles. Its factory configuration and matching-numbers status are further documented by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, adding another level of provenance to an already exceptionally rare early 911. Most recently, in July 2026, this exceptional 911 L benefited from a complete engine rebuild performed by Gaudin Porsche of Las Vegas, providing an important mechanical investment in the preservation of its matching-numbers powertrain. The work was completed by Porsche-trained specialists with the care and expertise appropriate for a historically significant early 911. With its one-year-only production, just 499 examples built, matching-numbers drivetrain, original Polo Red specification, documented 57,066 miles, extensive history from the original purchase, and freshly rebuilt engine, this 1968 Porsche 911 L represents a rare opportunity to acquire an important and increasingly difficult-to-find piece of early Porsche history. More than five decades after leaving the factory, it remains a beautiful representation of everything that made the early 911 so special: lightness, simplicity, mechanical purity, and an unmistakable connection between driver and machine.
